The Applegate Ranger District of the Rogue River National Forest will be conducting a field tour and discussion of the Quartz Fire this Saturday, October 20, 2001 for all members of the public. Some of the short-term fire rehabilitation projects from the BAER (Burned Areas Emergency Rehabilitation) projects will be visited and discussed along with additional, proposed long-term fire recovery and rehabilitaton projects. Potential timber salvage opportunities, firewood, and transportation issues within the Quartz Fire will also be discussed. All of those interested in participating in the field tour should meet at the Applegate District Office (6941 Upper Applegate Road) at 09:00. Transportation will be provided by the Forest Service, but tour participants should bring warm clothes, rain gear, and sturdy hiking boots. Hard hats will be provided by the Forest Service. The tour is expected to return to the Applegate Ranger District by 3:00 p.m., so participants should bring their own lunches, snacks and water.
