WILLIAMS GRANGE FARMER'S MARKET - July 6th and 13th – 4-6 pm
We will be shortening the market to two hours starting Thursday, July 6th. It will now run from 4 to 6 pm, reason being that there was very little business during the last hour for all vendors attending.
The greatest selection and quality is right at the beginning of the market and generally during the first hour. This past week early birds were treated to raspberries, peas and carrots from Seven Seeds Farm, Rolling Hills’ cherries, Dancing Bear Farm's greens, herbs and cabbage, Wyll and Cory's eggs and rocks, and Elaine Ingram's salad dressings. The market has been dynamic and bustling with 3 to 5 vendors and lots of new and old friends. Our hope and vision is to develop this community resource into a nexus of local commerce. When you buy food, or plants from folks at the market, your dollars stay in the community in a truly meaningful and tangible way.
In time we would like to see the market include live music, children's activities and more vendors with a greater diversity of products. The concept of barter as a medium of exchange is a possibility I would like to see developed. This is community in action folks – so let’s put our money and energy where our mouths are. New vendors are encouraged to attend; please call Kimberly or Don at 846-9233 to discuss details.
In many parts of the world food markets take place regularly, a few times each week or daily, because people prefer the incomparable quality, freshness and the genuine human connections of the farmers’ market experience. We are contemplating having a brief (1 or 2 hour) Sunday evening market later in the summer when all the harvest bounty is really coming in. For farmers this would be advantageous because plants such as raspberries, strawberries, green beans, peas, cucumbers, tomatoes, melons and so on need to be harvested at least twice per week.
We appreciate feed back from customers or vendors who like this idea and would support it. Please email us at sevenseedsfarm@yahoo.com to let us know what you think.
July markets will include the following and more: raspberries, peas, carrots, greens, lettuce, radishes, onions, garlic, basil, zucchini, strawberries and hopefully more organic cherries from Rolling Hills.
Ben, who has sold vegetable starts and vegetables with his partner Lakisha and family, is organizing a bake sale to raise funds for Communiversity. These funds will assist with overcoming an insurance hurdle standing in the way of basketball and soccer being able to take place at the Williams School. Please come out and support them.
