News from the SCA
Greetings Williams Community!
The SCA is going to start a monthly report in the Williams news to keep folks
up to date with the happenings at the SCA, on the land, in the board meetings
and within the community.
Our hope is to regenerate interest for our wonderful community asset, the Sugarloaf
land. The Sugarloaf land was purchased in 1999, and through many fundraisers
and dedicated hard work, $150,000 was raised and it was paid off in 2004. During
that time it housed many home schooling groups and lots of love and energy were
put both into the land and buildings.
During this past year, the land housed one school group, a Kindergarten class
and completed a soccer field with a grant from the Ford Foundation. Currently
the SCA board is looking for ways for the land to be relevant to more of the
community once again. We held two visioning meetings in December and February,
where many great ideas for future use of the land were presented. Since those
meetings, there have been many changes within the board making implementing
those visions challenging. We have not forgotten the visions, though creating
a new board of directors has needed to take precedence. Now we have a full board
of directors for the Sugarloaf Community Association, chock full of enthusiasm.
The Board consists of Larry Sol, Brian Hunter, Kathryn Roether, Arthur Sherman,
and our newest additions – Madrone Frankfort, Charlotte McKennen and Cheryl
Bruner.
Thanks to ALL who have been there with their support through this time of great
transition for the SCA. The biggest project on the land is the electrical upgrade.
Though the electricity doesn’t seem too exciting, it is one small step
toward visions of new buildings or classrooms, and a greatly needed improvement.
The SCA has received a matching funds grant for this work, meaning we need to
raise around $8,000 for our half of the project. We just held our annual auction,
to begin raising the funds for this project. We raised $2,250 toward our electrical
upgrade!
Thanks so much to all who contributed, through donations, auction purchases,
volunteer hours and general merriment. A wonderful time was had by all who attended.
But, I think the kids had the best time as they frolicked on the new playing
field. Thanks again to all. Please remember the SCA is open to all. We hold
monthly board meetings on the fourth Wednesday of the month, 5:30 at the SCA.
Anyone is welcome to attend.
THANKS FOR THE SUPPORT!
The SCA annual auction raised $2,200 toward the cost of the electrical upgrade.
Thanks for making the auction a fun and successful event.
